This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) that the Department of Mathematics admission requirements has been published.

The requirements below cover the O’Level subject combination, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the A Level and NCE routes into Direct Entry, and the JAMB score needed to qualify for screening into Mathematics at Maiduguri.
Mathematics at UNIMAID is more flexible on supporting subjects than the engineering and medical courses. Physics, Chemistry, Economics and Geography all appear as acceptable partners, which opens the course to candidates from science and commercial backgrounds alike.
What does not move is Mathematics itself. It is required at O’Level, in UTME and in both Direct Entry routes, so a candidate without a credit pass in Mathematics has no path into this department.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Mathematics include Five SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
English Language, Mathematics, and Physics or Chemistry.
Three of the five credit passes are named above. The department does not specify the remaining two here, so candidates should confirm them against the current JAMB brochure or with the Faculty before registering.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Mathematics and any two (2) of Physics, Chemistry, and Economics or Geography
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Mathematics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics and any other science subject.
- NCE merit in Mathematics and one (1) in Physics, Chemistry, or Economics.

About the University of Maiduguri
The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) is a Federal higher education institution in Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital city in northeast Nigeria.
The federal government of Nigeria established the university in 1975 with the goal of it becoming one of the country’s primary higher-education institutions.
With a large student and staff population, the University of Maiduguri admits students from all over Nigeria, regardless of race, culture, or religion.
Where UNIMAID Mathematics Applicants Usually Slip Up
The UTME combination is the part candidates read too quickly. English Language and Mathematics are fixed, and the remaining two subjects must come from Physics, Chemistry, and Economics or Geography. Picking outside that group makes the registration invalid for this course.
Direct Entry offers two routes. Two A Level passes work provided one is Mathematics and the other is a science subject. An NCE is also accepted, with a merit in Mathematics plus one in Physics, Chemistry or Economics.
Finally, treat the JAMB score of 160 as the eligibility line for screening rather than the admission standard. Candidates should also check the departmental cut-off for the session, since that figure is set separately and can sit well above the university minimum.
