Education and Science is offered at the University Of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka. This page covers the O’Level credit passes, two UNN waiver remarks, the UTME subject combination, the Direct Entry routes and the JAMB score required.
The programme trains science teachers, so a proposed teaching subject runs through the conditions. The waiver remarks name it explicitly, and the Direct Entry list asks for it among the A Level passes.
Read the two waiver bullets together rather than separately, because they describe the credit and pass levels Nsukka expects across the science subjects.

The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.
About UNN
The University of Nigeria was the first indigenous university in Nigeria to attain full-fledged and autonomous status. It was modelled after the American educational system. It is the first land-grant university in Africa and one of Nigeria’s five most reputed universities.
The University has 102 academic departments in 15 Faculties and offers 82 undergraduate and 211 postgraduate programs.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education and Science are five SSCE credit passes, including English Language, Mathematics, and two other Science subjects.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNN requires;
- Five SSCE credit passes, including English Language, Mathematics, and two Science subjects. One subject must be the proposed teaching subject.
- Five credit passes include a credit in at least one Science subject and a pass in two other Science subjects.
These two bullets set different levels for the science subjects. The first asks for two science subjects at credit, while the second accepts one credit plus passes in two more, so confirm which applies to your teaching subject with the Faculty of Education.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Education and Science under the Faculty of Education include three relevant Science or NBC subjects.

Direct Entry Requirement
You need the following to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Science if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant Science subjects should include the candidate’s proposed course.
- NCE credit/merit passes in addition to TC II merit or SSCE credit in relevant subjects.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 200 or above in your JAMB result.
Your Teaching Subject Shapes the UNN Education and Science Application
Decide the proposed teaching subject first. The waiver remarks require it among the five O’Level credits, and the Direct Entry condition asks for it among the two A Level passes, so the choice runs through the whole application.
In UTME, English Language is compulsory and the three other subjects are relevant science or NBC subjects. Relevant is judged against your teaching subject, so confirm the selection before registering.
Direct Entry also accepts an NCE at credit or merit, supported by TC II merit passes or SSCE credits in relevant subjects. UTME candidates face the UNN screening threshold of 200 in JAMB.
