The University Of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka has published the entry requirements for its Department of Education Arts, covering the O’Level credits, five waiver remarks, the JAMB UTME combination and Direct Entry.
Education Arts is not one requirement but several. Your subject of specialization decides which extra O’Level credit you must hold, and the waiver section sets out those subjects one by one.
English Language is the single constant. It is compulsory as an O’Level credit under both the general line and the waiver, and it is compulsory again in the UTME.

O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education Arts are as follows. You require;
Five SSCE credits in relevant subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and the subject of specialization.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNN requires five (5)’O’ Level credit passes in subjects to be combined with Education. A credit (or its equivalent) in the English Language at the ‘O’ Level is compulsory.
- For Education/English, an ‘O’ Level credit pass in Literature in English is compulsory.
- For Education/French, a credit pass in French is compulsory, while for Education/Igbo Linguistics, Igbo is compulsory.
- For Education/History, a credit pass in Government or History is compulsory.
- Candidates for Education/Creative Arts, Education Music, and Education Fine and Applied Arts must possess credit passes in Creative Art, Music, or Fine and Applied Arts, respectively.
Read down this list until you find your own combination. Education/English calls for Literature in English, Education/French for French, Education/Igbo Linguistics for Igbo, and Education/History for Government or History.
The creative strands follow the same logic, each asking for a credit in its own subject. These remarks add to the general line rather than replacing it.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Education Arts under the Faculty of Education at UNN include;
The subject of specialization and any two Arts subjects.
The same subject that governs your O’Level credit governs your UTME entry. Taken with the compulsory English Language, it and two Arts subjects make up the four you write in JAMB.

Your Subject of Specialization Decides the UNN Education Arts Requirement
There is no single subject list for this department. Education/English, Education/French, Education/Igbo Linguistics, Education/History and the creative strands each carry their own compulsory O’Level credit.
Identify your strand first, then work backwards to the credit it demands. English Language and Mathematics sit behind all of them, with English compulsory in the UTME as well.
Direct Entry takes two A Level passes in a relevant subject or an NCE at merit level, and UTME candidates need 200 or above in JAMB to be eligible for screening.
