This is to inform the general public and all Adeyemi College of Education (ACEONDO) aspirants that the Department of Education & Social Studies admission requirements have been published.
The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.
English Language is the only subject named outright at Ordinary Level. Two further credits must be Arts or Social Science subjects and the last two are unrestricted.
The JAMB option list is where the department becomes specific, offering six entries that run from the two religious studies papers through to Geography or Physics.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & Social Studies include the following: Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language plus two (2) Arts /Social Science subjects and any two subjects.
That is one of the lightest Ordinary Level conditions at the college, since only three of the five credits carry any restriction at all.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language and any three (3) subjects from below:
- Christian Religious Studies
- Economics
- Geography/Physics
- Government
- History
- Islamic Studies
English Language is compulsory and three papers come from the list. Christian Religious Studies and Islamic Studies are listed separately here rather than as a pair.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Social Studies if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require:
- NCE Social Studies from recognized Colleges
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in relevant subjects
The NCE route asks for Social Studies specifically and from a recognised college, while the Advanced Level route only requires two passes in relevant subjects.

The Ordinary Level requirement will stop very few candidates, asking only for English Language and two Arts or Social Science credits among the five.
The JAMB stage is where the choice narrows, since all three remaining papers must come from the six subjects the department lists.
Direct entry candidates can use an NCE in Social Studies or two relevant Advanced Level passes, and UTME candidates need at least 120 in JAMB for the screening exercise.
