Mathematics is required at secondary school level only. It is a condition many arts candidates overlook on a political science page.

Admission Requirements for Political Science

WAEC/NECO Subject Combination

The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Political Science is Five (5) SSCE credits in Mathematics, Government, English Language, and three other Arts subjects.

JAMB Subject Combination

In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.

Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Political Science under the Faculty of Social & Management Science at ADSU include;

Government/History and two other Art subjects.

Direct Entry Requirement

These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Political Science if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes, including History and Government.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into ADSU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.

History Joins Government After O Level at ADSU Political Science

The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credits in Mathematics, Government, English Language and three other Arts subjects. Government is named but History is not.

The Mathematics credit is compulsory at that stage and appears nowhere else in the requirements. A candidate without it is excluded before the subject lists even matter.

The UTME combination then offers Government or History, with two other Arts subjects alongside the compulsory English Language.

Direct Entry is the narrowest condition here, asking for two ‘A’ Level or NCE passes in History and Government together rather than either one.

A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at ADSU and applies whichever route a candidate uses.
