Biochemistry is taught under the Faculty of Sciences at Federal University Gashua. The O’Level requirement names all five credits, leaving a candidate nothing to substitute at that stage.
Direct Entry works the other way. Chemistry is fixed, but the second pass may come from a list of nine subjects that reaches well beyond the laboratory sciences.
Confirm that Biochemistry appears on the current FUGASHUA course list and that your JAMB registration records it correctly before you sit the examination.

WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Biochemistry is Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Biochemistry under the Faculty of Sciences at FUGASHUA include;
Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Biochemistry if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
Two (2) A-level passes in Chemistry and one from Biology/Botany/Zoology/Agricultural Science, Economics, Physics, Geography and Geology/Mathematics (Pure & Applied).
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUGASHUA for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
A Closed O Level and an Open Direct Entry at FUGASHUA Biochemistry
The O’Level requirement is five SSC credit passes in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology. Every slot is named and none can be replaced.
The UTME combination relaxes slightly. English Language is compulsory, Biology and Chemistry are fixed, and the third paper is either Physics or Mathematics.
Direct Entry keeps Chemistry and then opens up considerably, accepting Biology, Botany, Zoology, Agricultural Science, Economics, Physics, Geography, Geology or Mathematics as the second pass.
Economics and Geography in that list is the surprise. Neither would satisfy the O’Level condition, yet both are accepted at advanced level.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at FUGASHUA and applies whichever route a candidate uses.
