About Federal University, Otuoke

The Federal University, Otuoke, is a federal government-owned University located in Otuoke, a town in Ogbia’s local government area of Bayelsa State, Southern Nigeria. The University was established in 2011 and started with 282 pioneer students.

It offers degree courses at undergraduate levels. The University offers undergraduate programs in the Faculty of Science, Management Science, Social Science, Humanities, Education, Engineering, and Technology.

O’Level Subject Combination

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study History and International Studies are as follows:

Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language, Geography, Government/History.

Three of the five credits are named. English Language and Geography are both compulsory, and the third may be either Government or History, which leaves two places entirely open.

JAMB Subject Combination

In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study History and International Studies under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at FUOTUOKE include;

History/Government and any other two (2) subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.

Geography is gone from the UTME combination. One of History or Government is required beside English Language, and the last two papers may be any Arts or Social Science subjects.

Direct Entry Requirement

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study History and International Studies if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ level passes/NCE (upper credit) in History/Government and any other related subject.

Direct Entry repeats the History or Government pairing and leaves the second pass to any related subject. Note that the NCE must be at upper credit here, which is a higher bar than the merit several other listings accept.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUOTUOKE for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.

A History Course That Insists on Geography

History and Government behave as a single either/or requirement throughout. One of the two is needed among the O Level credits, one on the JAMB form, and one among the Direct Entry passes, but never both.

Geography is the subject to watch. It is compulsory at O Level for a course about History and International Studies, and then it disappears from the UTME combination and from Direct Entry entirely. Secure that credit early and score a minimum of 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
