This article is designed to help students who wish to study Mathematics under the Faculty of Sciences at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA).
It is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in FUTA to carefully confirm and see if the course they selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.
The requirements below cover the WAEC or NECO subject combination for Mathematics, the four JAMB UTME papers, and two separate Direct Entry options, followed by the minimum JAMB score the university applies.

Admission Requirements for Mathematics
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Mathematics is Five (5) SSCE credits in English Language, Mathematics, and Physics or Chemistry.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Mathematics at FUTA include Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry, Economics, or Geography.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Mathematics if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in Mathematics and any other science subject. Direct Entry candidates can also apply with an NCE merit in Mathematics and one in Physics, Chemistry, or Economics.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTA for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Economics and Geography at FUTA Mathematics
This is a science faculty course that leaves room for commercial and arts candidates. At UTME, Mathematics is fixed and the other two papers can be drawn from Physics, Chemistry, Economics or Geography.
Economics appears again at Direct Entry, where an NCE merit in Mathematics plus one in Physics, Chemistry or Economics is accepted alongside the usual two A’level passes.
The O’level line names only three subjects, namely English Language, Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry, which leaves two of the five credits unspecified.
Mathematics itself is the one subject required everywhere. Candidates entering through UTME need a minimum of 180 and above in their JAMB result for the 2026/2027 session.
