This article is designed to help students who wish to study Physics under the Faculty of Science at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA).
It is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in FUTA to carefully confirm and see if the course they selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.
The Physics requirements are set out below in three parts, namely the WAEC or NECO subject combination, the four JAMB UTME papers, and the Direct Entry route. A single minimum JAMB score applies across the university.
About Federal University of Technology
The Federal University of Technology (FUTA) is located in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria.
It was established in 1981 as part of a motivated effort on the part of the Federal government of Nigeria to create specialized universities that produce graduates grounded in both the theoretical and practical aspects of technology.
Admission Requirements for Physics
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Physics is Five (5) SSCE credits in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and any other Science subject from Further Mathematics and Biology or Agricultural Science.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Physics at FUTA include Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry or Biology.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Physics if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in Physics and Mathematics or Chemistry.

JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTA for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Chemistry Loses Its Fixed Place at FUTA Physics
Chemistry is compulsory at O’level here, named alongside English Language, Physics and Mathematics among the five credits. The fifth credit comes from Further Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science.
At UTME that changes. Physics and Mathematics stay fixed, but the third paper can be Chemistry or Biology, so a candidate stronger in Biology has a usable alternative at JAMB.
Direct Entry goes further still, asking for two A’level or NCE passes in Physics and either Mathematics or Chemistry. Physics is the only subject with no alternative on any of the three routes.
Whichever path you take, the score requirement is a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result for the 2026/2027 session. Check your Chemistry credit before relying on the Biology option at UTME.
