The Department of Prosthesis & Orthopedic Technology at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has published its entry requirements, covering the O’level credits, the UTME subject combination, the direct entry routes and the JAMB score needed for screening.

Prosthesis and Orthopaedic Technology trains people to design and fit artificial limbs and supports, so the entry profile is a full science one. All five O’level credits are named, with no substitutions permitted anywhere in the combination.
The UTME list drops Mathematics and keeps the three laboratory sciences alongside English Language. That is the only real difference between the two sets of subjects.
Direct entry offers something unusual here. An upper credit ND in this exact field is accepted, which gives diploma holders a clear path into the degree programme.
The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Prosthesis & Orthopaedic Technology include Five SSCE credits in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Biology
Five subjects, five credits, nothing optional. Candidates should check the grades rather than the subjects alone, since a pass in any one of these does not count towards the requirement.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Physics
Mathematics is required at O’level but not in the UTME. Register these four papers exactly as listed, because the department offers no alternative subject in any slot.

Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Prosthesis and Orthopaedic Technology if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- ‘A’ level passes in any two (2) of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
- ND Upper Credit in Prosthesis and Orthopaedic Technology
The second bullet is specific in a way the first is not. It names the diploma field exactly, so an upper credit ND in a related but different discipline may not be treated the same way.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 160 or above in your JAMB result.
That mark admits you to the screening exercise rather than to the department. Selection follows screening, so candidates at the threshold still have the decisive stage ahead of them.

Checking Yourself Against FUTO Prosthesis and Orthopaedic Technology
The UTME route asks for five O’level credits in English Language, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology, four UTME papers in English Language, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, and a JAMB score of 160 or above.
The direct entry route asks for A level passes in two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, or an upper credit ND in Prosthesis and Orthopaedic Technology itself.
Both sets of conditions can change between admission cycles, so confirm them with the department before you register rather than relying on an earlier year’s list.
