The Polytechnic Ibadan has published the admission requirements for its Department of Public Administration. Three separate checks apply before an offer is made, namely the O’level subject combination, the four papers written at JAMB UTME, and the cut-off marks set by the institution and the department.
At O’level, English Language and Mathematics are fixed and three further subjects come from a published list. That list is wide, running from Principles of Accounts and Office Practice through Government and Literature in English to Physics and Chemistry.
The UTME combination is far tighter. All four papers are named, namely English Language, Government, History and Economics, with no alternatives offered for any of them.
This is to inform the general public that the admission requirements for the Department of Public Administration Admission at the Ibadan Polytechnic (IBADAN POLY) have been published.
The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Public Administration:
- English Language
- Mathematics and any three subjects from the following:
- Economics/Commerce
- Business Methods
- Principles of Accounts
- Literature in English Geography
- Office Practice Government
- Biology/Agricultural Science
- Chemistry
- Physics
- History/Government
- Typewriting Shorthand
JAMB Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Government
- History and
- Economics

The gap between the two scores on this page is the detail that matters most. The institution admits from 180 and above in JAMB, but the departmental cut-off mark for Public Administration is 207.
That is a wide margin, and it makes this one of the more demanding departments at the polytechnic. A candidate scoring in the 180s meets the general rule yet still sits well below what this course has published.
Check your UTME papers as carefully as your score. Government, History and Economics are all required alongside English Language, so a candidate who registered a different fourth subject would not match the combination even with a strong result.
On the O’level side the credits in English Language and Mathematics are the fixed part. The three remaining subjects give you room to use what you already hold, provided they come from the list above.
