The Polytechnic Ibadan has released what candidates need in order to study Quantity Surveying. The requirements come in three parts, namely the O’level subject combination, the four papers written at JAMB UTME, and the cut-off marks applied by the institution and the department.
Mathematics and Physics are the two fixed O’level subjects. Three further subjects follow from a list that mixes technical, science and commercial options, including Technical Drawing or Fine Arts, Woodwork, Metal Work, Geography, Economics or Commerce and Religious Knowledge.
A credit pass in English Language is compulsory on top of those, and the department adds that a pass in Art or Technical Drawing will be an advantage rather than a requirement.

Where Art Helps an IBADANPOLY Quantity Surveying Application
Few departments spell out an advantage rather than a rule, but this one does. A pass in Art or Technical Drawing is not required, yet the page says it counts in your favour, which is worth knowing if you are still choosing subjects.
Note that Technical Drawing and Fine Arts also appear inside the optional O’level group, so the same subject can serve two purposes at once for candidates who sat it.
The UTME side is more conventional. English Language is fixed and the other three papers come from Physics, Mathematics, Geography, Economics and Biology or Agricultural Science, with no art subject among them.
On marks there is no extra hurdle. The institution asks for 150 and above in JAMB and the departmental cut-off mark for Quantity Surveying is also 150, so the subject combination is what decides most applications.
