This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, (MAUTECH) Yola, that the Department of Plant Science admission requirements have been published.
Plant Science at MAUTECH is a straightforward science admission with Biology and Chemistry at its centre. The sections below cover the O Level credits, the JAMB combination, the waiver and the Direct Entry route.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Plant Science include the following:
Five (5) SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
All five credits are named, so nothing is left to choose at this stage. Mathematics and Physics are both required here even though only one science beyond Biology and Chemistry is needed at UTME.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Biology
- Chemistry and any other Science subject
Biology and Chemistry are compulsory at UTME, and the fourth subject is described only as another science. That is broader than the waiver below, which names the acceptable subjects explicitly.
Special Requirement (Waiver) Remarks
MAUTECH requires Biology, Chemistry, and Physics/Mathematics for Plant Science.
The waiver narrows the open slot. Where the JAMB list accepts any other science as the fourth subject, MAUTECH specifies Physics or Mathematics, so register one of those two to be certain of meeting the requirement.

Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Plant Science if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Biology/Botany/Zoology and Chemistry or Physics.
Direct Entry recognises Botany and Zoology alongside Biology, which suits candidates whose advanced study specialised in one branch of the life sciences rather than the general subject.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into MAUTECH for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a score of a minimum of 160 or above in your JAMB result.

Let the Waiver Decide Your Fourth JAMB Subject
Biology and Chemistry are required on every route into Plant Science. The only open question is the fourth subject, and the page answers it twice: any science according to the JAMB list, Physics or Mathematics according to the waiver.
Take the waiver as the instruction that counts. Hold all five named O Level credits, register Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics, and score at least 160 in JAMB to reach screening.
