This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, (MAUTECH) Yola, that the Department of Science Laboratory Technology admission requirements have been published.
Science Laboratory Technology at MAUTECH asks for a complete science result at O Level and then relaxes by one subject at UTME. The sections below set out both lists and the Direct Entry route.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Science Laboratory Technology include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.
All five credits are named, so there is no free slot at this stage. Mathematics and Physics are both required here, which matters because only one of them is needed at UTME.
Special Requirement (Waiver) Remarks
MAUTECH accepts Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics or Mathematics
Biology and Chemistry are fixed at UTME, and the fourth subject may be either Physics or Mathematics. That is the single choice the combination offers, and it does not reduce what you need at O Level.

MAUTECH requires Biology, Chemistry, and either Physics or Mathematics for Science Laboratory Technology
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Science Laboratory Technology if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any one from Biology, Zoology, or Botany.
Chemistry is compulsory at Direct Entry and the second pass may be Biology, Zoology or Botany. Physics and Mathematics drop out entirely at this level, which is the clearest difference between the two routes.

Five Credits at O Level, Four Subjects at UTME
The requirement narrows as you move through the page. O Level asks for English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, while UTME keeps Biology and Chemistry and lets you choose between Physics and Mathematics.
Direct Entry narrows further still, to Chemistry plus one of Biology, Zoology or Botany. Whichever route you take, Chemistry is required, and UTME candidates need at least 160 in JAMB to reach screening.
