This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, (MAUTECH) Yola, that the Department of Soil Science admission requirements have been published.
Soil Science at MAUTECH is built on Chemistry and a biological subject, with Agricultural Science accepted in place of Biology at every stage. Several alternative entry routes are set out further down the page.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Soil Science include the following:
Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, and any other Science subject.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- MAUTECH requires at least a pass in Physics
- MAUTECH requires Five (5) O’Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, and one subject from Physics, Geography, or Economics.
The waiver tightens the general line rather than loosening it. Where the first statement allows any further science as the fifth credit, the waiver limits that choice to Physics, Geography or Economics.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Chemistry
- Biology or Agricultural Science
- Mathematics or Physics
Chemistry is the only subject fixed outright at UTME. Biology may be replaced by Agricultural Science, and the fourth subject may be either Mathematics or Physics, which gives candidates two points of flexibility.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
MAUTECH requires Biology/Agricultural Science and any other two (2) of Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Economics, or Mathematics.

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Soil Science if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and one in Zoology/Botany/Agric Science/Biology, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Economics, and Health Science.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
MAUTECH accepts: Two `A’ Level credit passes in Chemistry and Biology. OND/HND with lower credit passes in Agric. Science or any other relevant field. IJMB 7 points in Biology/Agric. Sci., Chemistry, Physics/ Geography at credit level.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into MAUTECH for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a score of a minimum of 160 or above in your JAMB result.

Three Ways In Beyond the Standard A Level Pass
Soil Science keeps Chemistry fixed throughout and allows Agricultural Science to stand in for Biology wherever it appears. That single substitution opens the course to candidates from an agricultural rather than a pure science background.
Direct Entry widens things further, recognising an OND or HND at lower credit and an IJMB result of seven points. For UTME candidates, five credits and a JAMB score of 160 are what matter.
