Arabic Studies is taught in the Faculty of Arts at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK). The Arabic paper is required on all three entry routes and no substitute is offered for it at any stage.
The subjects accompanying Arabic are described differently at each stage. The O’Level line asks for relevant subjects, the UTME line for Arts or Social Sciences, and Direct Entry narrows to the Arts alone.
Confirm that Arabic Studies appears on the current NSUK course list and that your JAMB registration records it correctly before you sit the examination. A course entered in error cannot be assessed against these conditions.

WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Arabic Studies is Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Arabic and three (3) other relevant subjects.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Arabic Studies at NSUK are Arabic & two subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Arabic Studies if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Arabic and any other Arts subject.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into NSUK for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
The Supporting Subjects Narrow at Each Stage of NSUK Arabic Studies
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Arabic and three other relevant subjects. Relevant is not defined, which leaves the widest field of the three routes.
The UTME combination tightens that. English Language is compulsory, Arabic is fixed, and the two remaining subjects must come from the Arts or Social Sciences.
Direct Entry is narrower again. Two ‘A’ level passes are required, one in Arabic and the second in any other Arts subject, with Social Science papers no longer accepted.
Reading the three in sequence shows a clear pattern. The further into the process a candidate goes, the more firmly the department expects an arts background around the Arabic paper.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at NSUK and applies to every route described here.
