Common and Islamic Law is offered under the Faculty of Law at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK). The combined title is reflected in the requirements, which ask for an Arts or Social Science background with an Islamic Studies or Arabic element attached.
Islamic Studies or Arabic is named at O’Level and again at Direct Entry, though not in the UTME combination. That difference between the routes is the detail most candidates miss when planning their subjects.

The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Common and Islamic Law is Five (5) SSCE credits in Arts or Social Sciences, including English Language and Islamic Studies or Arabic.

All candidates interested in getting admitted into NSUK for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Where Islamic Studies Counts in the NSUK Law Requirements
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credits drawn from the Arts or Social Sciences, with English Language named and either Islamic Studies or Arabic required alongside it. The remaining credits are left to the candidate.
The UTME combination is looser. English Language is compulsory, Literature in English is named, and the other two subjects may be any Arts or Social Science papers. Islamic Studies is not required at this stage.
Direct Entry brings it back. Two ‘A’ level passes are needed and one of them must be Islamic Studies or Arabic, which makes the route closed to candidates without that background.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at NSUK. Law is usually among the more competitive faculties, so the stated minimum is rarely where successful candidates sit.
