Education and Chemistry is a combined degree taught under the Faculty of Education at Sokoto State University (SSU). Chemistry is the one subject named on all three entry routes, and nothing substitutes for it at any stage.
Around that fixed subject the requirements offer a short list of accepted sciences rather than a single prescribed combination, which gives candidates some room to play to their stronger papers.

Confirm that Education and Chemistry appears on the current SSU course list and that your JAMB registration records it correctly. A course entered in error cannot be matched against the conditions described below.

About Sokoto State University
The Sokoto State University is located in Sokoto State, Nigeria.
It was established in 2009 as part of a motivated effort on the part of the Sokoto State to satisfy the quest of the people of the state for excellence and education.
It began as the Sokoto State University School of Developmental Studies, which ran a one-year degree program to prepare students for the University.
Admission Requirements for Education and Chemistry
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Education and Chemistry is Five (5) SSCE credits in Mathematics, Chemistry, and English Language, and two (2) in Physics, Biology, and Agricultural Science.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Education and Chemistry at SSU, including Chemistry and two (2) other subjects, are chosen from Physics, Biology, and Mathematics
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Chemistry if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in Chemistry and one (1) other Science subject.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into SSU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Chemistry Is Non Negotiable on the SSU Education and Chemistry Route
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credits. Mathematics, Chemistry and English Language are named, and the remaining two must come from Physics, Biology and Agricultural Science.
Agricultural Science appears only in that O’Level list. It is not among the subjects offered at UTME, so a candidate relying on it should be careful not to assume it carries across.
The UTME combination keeps English Language compulsory and fixes Chemistry, with the other two subjects chosen from Physics, Biology and Mathematics. That is a narrower pool than the O’Level line allows.
Direct Entry is the shortest route to state. Two ‘A’ Level or NCE passes are required, one in Chemistry and one in any other science subject, leaving the second choice fairly open.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at SSU.
