This is to inform the general public and all Rivers State University (RSU) aspirants that the Department of Urban and Regional Planning Admission requirements has been published.
The requirements cover the O Level credits, the four JAMB papers and the minimum UTME score. Geography and Mathematics are compulsory at both stages, while the optional subjects narrow sharply at registration.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Urban & Regional Planning include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Geography and any two subjects from below:
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Economics
- Government
- Biology
- Art
- History
- IRK/CRK
- Social Studies
- Technical Drawing
Three credits are fixed at English Language, Mathematics and Geography. The remaining two are drawn from a ten subject list that spans the sciences, the social sciences and the arts.
Technical Drawing, Social Studies and the religious knowledge papers all count here, which makes the credit requirement easier to meet than it first appears.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Geography and one of Economics, Physics, or Chemistry
The JAMB list is much shorter. English Language, Mathematics and Geography fill three places and the fourth is limited to Economics, Physics or Chemistry.
Government, History, Art and the other O Level options have no place on the form, so a candidate without one of those three subjects has no valid combination.

What RSU Urban and Regional Planning Applicants Must Register
Geography, Mathematics and English Language are compulsory on both lists, which accounts for three of the four JAMB papers and three of the five O Level credits.
The difference lies in the fourth paper. Ten subjects count towards the credits but only Economics, Physics and Chemistry are accepted in JAMB. Register one of those three and make sure your score reaches 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
