Geography is taught under the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences at Sokoto State University (SSU). Geography itself is the only subject named at every stage of the application, which makes it the single paper a candidate cannot afford to miss.
Around that fixed point the requirements are unusually open. Three of the five O’Level credits and two of the three UTME subjects are left to the candidate, provided they come from the Arts or Social Sciences.
Confirm that Geography is on the current SSU course list and that your JAMB registration records it correctly before you sit the examination. A course entered in error cannot be assessed against these conditions.

Admission Requirements for Geography
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Geography is Five (5) SSCE credits in English Language, Geography, and any three Arts or Social Science subjects.
At least a pass in Mathematics is required.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Geography at SSU include Geography and two other Arts or Social Science subjects.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Geography if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in Geography and any in Economics, Government, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into SSU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Geography Is the Fixed Point in the SSU Requirements
The O’Level condition is five SSCE credits in English Language, Geography and any three Arts or Social Science subjects. Mathematics sits outside that count and is accepted at pass level rather than credit.
That Mathematics clause is easy to overlook. A candidate with strong Arts credits but no Mathematics result at all will not satisfy the requirement, even though the subject is not among the five credits.
Direct Entry widens the field in an unexpected direction. Two ‘A’ Level or NCE passes are needed, one in Geography and the other from Economics, Government, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics, so sciences are accepted here.
A JAMB score of 180 is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at SSU.
