Four of the five O’level credits are fixed here, namely English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The fifth is unusually open, running from Fine Art and Geography through to Bricklaying, Joinery, Ceramics and Basic Electricity.

That long tail exists for technical college candidates, and it is the part of the page most applicants overlook. A trade certificate subject can complete the combination where a conventional fifth subject is missing.

At UTME the pattern is different again, with Physics and Mathematics fixed and the third paper chosen from Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology or Economics. Direct Entry accepts two A’level passes or an ND or HND at upper credit in a relevant field.
