This is to inform the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) that the admission requirements for the Department of Drama/Dramatic/Performing Arts have been published.

The sections below cover the O’Level credit passes, two Benin waiver remarks, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the Direct Entry route, and the JAMB score required for screening.
Literature in English is named in both waivers, which makes it the subject that most clearly marks out a candidate for a drama and performing arts degree.
The Direct Entry route is unusually open by comparison, accepting A Level passes from the arts, the social sciences or the sciences.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination

- Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language and Arts subjects.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN requires Literature in English and one Arts subject.
This waiver sharpens the general O’Level line, which speaks only of English Language and arts subjects. Benin names Literature in English specifically, with one further arts subject alongside it.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Literature in English and two (2) other relevant subjects
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN accepts any two (2) Arts Subjects and another subject.
The UTME waiver pulls the other way. Where the general line names Literature in English, Benin will take any two arts subjects plus one more alongside the compulsory English Language.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Drama /Dramatic/Performing Arts if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Arts, Social Sciences, or Science subjects.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
The Two UNIBEN Drama Waivers Point Different Ways
At O’Level the waiver is stricter than the general line, naming Literature in English and one arts subject. At UTME it is looser, taking any two arts subjects and one other.
The safest approach is to hold Literature in English regardless. It satisfies the tighter O’Level reading and counts as one of the two arts subjects at UTME stage.
Direct Entry is the most open part of the requirement, accepting two A Level passes from the arts, the social sciences or the sciences. UTME candidates need a JAMB score of at least 200.
