This is to inform the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) that the admission requirements for the Department of Education & Physics have been published.
The sections below cover the O’Level credit passes, two Benin waiver remarks, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, two Direct Entry routes, and the JAMB score needed for screening.
The programme trains physics teachers, so Physics and Mathematics are fixed at both O’Level and UTME stage, alongside the compulsory English Language.
The two waiver remarks name the supporting sciences Benin expects, and they are more specific than the general lines they sit beneath.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & Physics include the following:
- Five (5)’O’ Level credits pass to include English Language, Physics, Mathematics, and two (2) other Science subjects or NTC/NBC.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN requires two (2) other Science subjects, one (1) of which should be Chemistry/Agricultural Science/Biology/Further Mathematics.
The general line asks only for two other science subjects. This waiver narrows one of them to Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Biology or Further Mathematics, leaving the second open.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Physics
- Mathematics or Chemistry plus one (1) other subject
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN requires Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry or Biology.
This waiver is the one to register from. Where the general line offers Mathematics or Chemistry plus any other subject, Benin fixes Physics and Mathematics and takes Chemistry or Biology as the fourth.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Physics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics and Mathematics.
- NCE credit or merit in relevant subjects.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
Register From the Waiver for UNIBEN Education and Physics
The general UTME line and the Benin waiver do not say the same thing. The waiver fixes Physics, Mathematics and either Chemistry or Biology, which is narrower than the general wording suggests.
At O’Level you need five credits including English Language, Physics and Mathematics, plus two other sciences, one of which must be Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Biology or Further Mathematics.
Direct Entry takes two A Level passes in Physics and Mathematics, or an NCE at credit or merit in relevant subjects. UTME candidates need a JAMB score of at least 200 to be eligible for screening.
