The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has published the entry requirements for its Department of Physiology, covering the O’Level credits, a waiver remark, the JAMB UTME combination and Direct Entry.

Unusually for these pages, the waiver names exactly the same five subjects as the O’Level line above it. English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology appear in both.
The one thing the waiver adds is a limit of two sittings. That condition appears nowhere else on the page, which makes the waiver worth reading even though the subjects repeat.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Physiology include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIBEN requires at least five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes or equivalents at not more than two (2) sittings. The subjects should include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Nothing here contradicts the line above, since the same five subjects are named in both. The waiver simply attaches the sitting condition and allows equivalent qualifications in place of SSCE credits.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
Mathematics is the only O’Level credit absent from the UTME. It still has to be held, so dropping it in JAMB does not take it out of your preparation.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Physiology if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes chosen from Chemistry, Physics, and Biology/Zoology.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
The Waiver Repeats the Same Five Subjects at UNIBEN Physiology
Most waiver remarks on these pages change something. This one names the identical five subjects, so there is no conflict to resolve and no ambiguity about what you must hold.
What it does introduce is the two sitting limit, which is the condition to check once your subjects are settled. Equivalent qualifications are accepted in place of SSCE credits.
Direct Entry takes two A Level passes from Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Zoology, and UTME candidates need 200 or above in JAMB before screening.
