The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has published the entry requirements for its Department of Plant Science & Biotechnology, covering the O’Level credits, a waiver remark, the JAMB UTME combination and Direct Entry.

The O’Level line names all five subjects as credits, but the waiver that follows softens one of them. UNIBEN accepts a pass in Physics rather than the credit the main list implies.
Biology and Chemistry are the two subjects with no give anywhere on the page. Both are O’Level credits, both are written in the UTME, and both appear in the Direct Entry condition.

University of Benin admission is extremely competitive as many candidates apply for admission into the university annually. University of Benin’s school fees are also very affordable, and it provides its students with facilities and infrastructure. They have good hostels, roads, electricity, etc.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited faculties and departments in the university.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Plant Science & Biotechnology include the following:
Five (5) SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIBEN accepts a pass in Physics.
Short as it is, this remark changes the O’Level requirement above. Physics is listed there among five credit passes, while the waiver accepts a pass in that one subject.
Both statements are reproduced exactly as published. The waiver is the UNIBEN-specific remark for this programme, so it governs the standard you need in Physics.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Biology
- Chemistry and any other Science subject
The fourth UTME subject is any science, so Physics and Mathematics both qualify. Candidates relying on the Physics waiver may prefer Mathematics here, since it is a required O’Level credit in its own right.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Plant Science and Biotechnology if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Biology/Botany/Zoology and Chemistry or Physics
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
The Waiver Downgrades Physics From Credit to Pass at UNIBEN Plant Science and Biotechnology
One short line changes who can apply. Candidates who fell short of a credit in Physics are not excluded, because UNIBEN accepts a pass in that subject for this programme.
Biology and Chemistry are the ones to protect. Neither is relaxed anywhere, and both carry through the O’Level credits, the UTME and the Direct Entry list.
Direct Entry takes two A Level passes in Biology, Botany or Zoology together with Chemistry or Physics. UTME candidates need 200 or above in JAMB before screening.
