The sections below cover the O’Level subjects, a detailed Benin waiver that varies by option, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the Direct Entry route, and the JAMB score required.
Science Laboratory Technology at Benin is taught in several options, and the waiver remark sets different conditions depending on which one a candidate chooses.
Read that remark before anything else, because it is more detailed than the plain subject list above it and it is what the department actually applies.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Science Laboratory Technology include the following:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Physics
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN for Science Laboratory Technology requires five O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, and any two of Biology, Physics, Agricultural Science, and Geography, depending on the option chosen by the candidate. Candidates opting for Physics/Electronics, Petrochemical Geology, and Physiology/Pharmacology Techniques must have credit in Physics.
This waiver governs. It fixes English Language, Mathematics and Chemistry, then takes any two of Biology, Physics, Agricultural Science and Geography, which is wider than the plain five-subject list above.
The exception is worth noting. Candidates choosing the Physics and Electronics, Petrochemical Geology, or Physiology and Pharmacology Techniques options must hold a credit in Physics specifically.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics or Mathematics
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Science Laboratory Technology if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, and any one from Biology, Zoology, or Botany.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
Your Chosen Option Changes the UNIBEN Laboratory Technology Requirement
This is not a single requirement but several. Three subjects are fixed for everyone, English Language, Mathematics and Chemistry, and the remaining two depend on the laboratory option you intend to take.
Three options carry an extra condition. Physics and Electronics, Petrochemical Geology, and Physiology and Pharmacology Techniques all require a credit pass in Physics rather than one of the alternatives.
In UTME you sit English Language, Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics. Direct Entry takes two A Level passes in Chemistry and one of Biology, Zoology or Botany, and UTME candidates need 200 in JAMB.
