This is to inform the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) that the admission requirements for the Department of Secretarial Administration & Education have been published.
The sections below cover the O’Level subject list, a Benin waiver that narrows it, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, two Direct Entry routes, and the JAMB score required.
The waiver remark is the most important line on this page, because it rules out three subjects that the general O’Level list appears to accept.
Economics anchors the rest of the requirement, appearing in the O’Level list, in the waiver and again in the UTME combination alongside the compulsory English Language.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Secretarial Administration & Education include Five SSCE passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Economics and any two(2) subjects from below:
- Government
- Geography/Physics
- Accounting
- Business Methods
- History
- Shorthand
- Mathematics
- Commerce
- Principles of Accounts
- Office Practice
- Secretarial Duties
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN requires Economics or Commerce but does not accept Principles of Accounts, Office Practice, and Secretarial Duties.
This waiver governs over the list above it. Principles of Accounts, Office Practice and Secretarial Duties all appear among the O’Level options, but Benin will not count them, and Economics or Commerce is required instead.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Economics and any two (2) Social Science subjects.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Secretarial Administration & Education if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- NCE Business Education Social Studies Secretarial Education Major.
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Business Methods and any other Social Science subject and an ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result to be eligible for the screening.
The Subjects UNIBEN Will Not Count for Secretarial Administration
Candidates from commercial colleges often lead with Principles of Accounts, Office Practice or Secretarial Duties. Benin does not accept any of the three here, so plan your five O’Level subjects around Economics or Commerce instead.
In UTME you sit English Language, Economics and two other social science subjects, and you need a JAMB score of at least 200 to be eligible for screening.
Direct Entry offers two routes: an NCE in Business Education, Social Studies or Secretarial Education as a major, or two A Level passes in Business Methods and another social science subject with an O’Level pass in Mathematics.
