The University of Calabar has published the admission requirements for its Department of Human Kinetics, covering the O’level credits accepted, the UTME subject combination, the direct entry route and the JAMB score the university applies.

Human Kinetics is the study of human movement and physical performance, and the subject conditions reflect that focus without being narrow. Health Science, Physical Education and Biology are treated as interchangeable at O’level.
Beyond English Language and Mathematics, the rest of the O’level list is open, and the UTME asks only for English Language plus three relevant subjects.
Direct entry is handled through a single route built on the NCE in Physical and Health Education, with a specific percentage attached. That condition is set out below.
The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Human Kinetics include the following:
- Five SSCE credits in one sitting include English Language, Mathematics, Health Science/Physical Education/Biology, and any other subjects.
Three subjects are effectively fixed, with the third satisfied by any one of Health Science, Physical Education or Biology. The remaining two credits are open to anything on your result sheet.
Note also that the department states this for a single sitting. Candidates whose results are spread over two exams should confirm how that is treated before applying.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language and three other relevant subjects.
Only English Language is named. Since relevant is not defined, candidates whose chosen papers sit outside the sciences should check them with the department rather than assume.
Direct Entry Requirement For Human Kinetics
Below is the Direct Entry Requirement for Human Kinetics :
- NCE in Physical and Health Education with an overall percentage of 60% plus UTME requirements.
This route sets a clear standard. The NCE has to be in Physical and Health Education specifically, at 60% overall, and the UTME requirements still apply on top of it.
JAMB Score
For any candidate to be admitted to any Department in the University of Calabar, the Candidate must score 150 and above in JAMB.
The mark is a university condition rather than a departmental one. Clearing it makes your application eligible, and selection between qualified candidates follows afterwards.
What UNICAL Human Kinetics Asks of Its Applicants
The subject bar is low but specific. English Language, Mathematics and one of Health Science, Physical Education or Biology, with two further credits of your own choosing.
For the UTME you need English Language and three relevant papers, together with a JAMB score of 150 or above to be considered.
Holders of an NCE in Physical and Health Education at 60% have a defined direct entry route. Confirm the current conditions with UNICAL before registering.
