Admission requirements for the Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Calabar have been published, covering the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME papers, two Direct Entry routes and the JAMB score.

This is among the most open departments at UNICAL. Only English Language and Mathematics are named at O’Level, and the UTME combination accepts any three subjects beyond the compulsory paper.
The O’Level rule explicitly welcomes Arts, Science and Social Science credits alike, which few departments do.

The University of Calabar is a federal university in Cross River State, in the south south region of Nigeria. It was established in 1975.
The university has a very large student and staff population and a diverse student body. All applicants to the university are accepted, regardless of their cultural or religious background. Additionally, there is no restriction on applicants’ ages.
All Three Streams Welcome at UNICAL Library and Information Science
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, and three other relevant Arts, Science or Social Science subjects.
Naming all three streams in one clause is unusual, and it means a candidate is not penalised for having a mixed set of results.
The JAMB combination asks only for English Language and any three subjects, with no restriction at all on the other papers.
Direct Entry offers two routes. Two A level passes in relevant subjects alongside the UTME requirements, or an NCE at merit in relevant subjects.
The UNICAL JAMB threshold is 150 and above for any department. With subject rules this relaxed, the score is what the application rests on.
