Education & Economics at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) prepares teachers of economics. Economics itself is required at every stage, while the subject beside it changes from one entry route to the next.
UNIJOS sets its screening threshold at 180, which sits between the 160 some federal universities accept and the 200 others demand. Check that figure against your result before counting on a place.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & Economics include the following:
Five SSCE credit passes to include English Language, Economics, and Mathematics.
Three credits are named and two are left open to any subject. Mathematics is asked for as a credit rather than a pass, which is stricter than several other UNIJOS education courses.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Economics
- Mathematics and one other subject from Geography/Physics, History, Government, and Literature in English
Three of your four JAMB subjects are therefore fixed: English Language, Economics and Mathematics. The final slot draws on a list that spans both sciences and arts, so candidates from either stream can complete it.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Economics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two ‘A’ level passes in Economics and one other relevant subject.
- NCE credit/merit level passes in Economics and one other subject.
Mathematics disappears at Direct Entry. Both routes name Economics and leave the partner subject loosely defined, and an NCE at credit or merit is accepted on the same footing as A Level passes.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
Mathematics Matters Until Direct Entry
Economics runs through every requirement on this page, but Mathematics behaves differently. It is a required O Level credit and a compulsory JAMB subject, then vanishes from both Direct Entry conditions.
For UTME candidates that means three fixed subjects and one free choice. Hold credits in English Language, Economics and Mathematics, pick your fourth from the approved list, and reach at least 180 in JAMB.
