This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) that the Department of Animal Science admission requirements has been published.
The sections below cover the five O’Level credit passes, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the Direct Entry route, the Maiduguri waiver on diploma holders, and the JAMB score needed for screening.
Animal Science is grouped with the agricultural sciences, so Biology and Agricultural Science are treated as interchangeable throughout. Chemistry is fixed at every stage, including in the A Level conditions for Direct Entry.
Mathematics behaves differently in the two lists. It is a required O’Level credit, but in UTME it is offered as an alternative to Physics, which is worth checking before you register.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Animal Science include the following:
Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology/Agric Science, and one in Physics, Geography, or Economics.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Chemistry
- Biology/Agricultural Science
- Mathematics/Physics
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Animal Science if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two ‘A’ level passes or equivalent in Chemistry and one in Biology/Botany/Zoology/Agric Science/Geography/Geology/Mathematics/ Economics.
Special Requirement (Waiver) Remarks
UNIMAID accepts NCE/ND/HND in relevant fields.
This waiver widens the Direct Entry route rather than replacing it. Where the general condition names two A Level passes, Maiduguri will also consider an NCE, a National Diploma or an HND in a relevant field.

Chemistry and Biology Carry UNIMAID Animal Science
The O’Level set is English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, and one of Physics, Geography or Economics. Only that last slot is open, so the first four need to be secure.
At UTME you sit English Language, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and either Mathematics or Physics. A JAMB score of at least 160 makes the application eligible for the screening exercise.
Direct Entry is broader than the UTME list suggests. Chemistry is fixed as one A Level pass, and the second can come from Biology, Botany, Zoology, Agricultural Science, Geography, Geology, Mathematics or Economics.
