This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) that the Department of Education & Science admission requirements has been published.
The sections below cover the O’Level credit passes, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the Direct Entry routes for A Level and NCE holders, and the JAMB score needed to be eligible for screening into Education and Science.
This programme trains science teachers, so the conditions combine a science base with a teaching subject. English Language and Mathematics are fixed at O’Level, with two further science subjects among the five credit passes.
The Direct Entry wording makes the pattern explicit by asking that the A Level passes include the candidate’s proposed course. In practice your teaching subject should run through the O’Level credits, the UTME registration and any Direct Entry qualification.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education and Science are the following:
Five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes, including English Language, Mathematics and two (2) other Science subjects.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Three relevant Science or NBC subjects
English Language is the compulsory subject, and the three remaining slots take relevant science or NBC subjects. Relevant is judged against the teaching subject you intend to take, so confirm your selection with the Faculty of Education before registering.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Science if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in relevant Science subjects, which should include the candidate’s proposed course.
- NCE credit/merit in addition to TC II merit or ‘O’ Level credit in relevant subjects.

Lining Up Your Science Teaching Subject at UNIMAID
The O’Level condition is five credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and two other science subjects. Those two sciences are where your teaching specialism should sit, since the UTME and Direct Entry conditions both build on it.
In JAMB, sit English Language plus three relevant science or NBC subjects, and clear a score of at least 160 to be eligible for screening. The departmental cut-off for the session is published separately and is worth checking.
Direct Entry offers two paths. Two A Level passes in relevant sciences including your proposed course, or an NCE at credit or merit level supported by TC II merit passes or O’Level credits in relevant subjects.
