This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) that the Department of Education Arts admission requirements has been published.
The sections below cover the O’Level credit passes, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the Direct Entry route for A Level and NCE holders, and the JAMB score needed to be eligible for screening into Education Arts.
Education Arts is organised around a teaching subject rather than a single fixed syllabus. The department calls it the subject of specialization, and it appears in both the O’Level credits and the UTME combination.
That means two candidates can meet these conditions with quite different results. What matters is that your chosen teaching subject runs consistently through your SSCE credits and your JAMB registration.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education Arts include the following:
Five SSCE credits in relevant subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and the subject of specialization.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- The subject of specialization and any two Arts subjects
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education Arts if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in relevant subject/NCE merit.
Relevant here means relevant to the teaching subject you intend to specialise in. An NCE at merit level is accepted as an alternative to the two A Level passes, which is the usual route for college of education graduates.

Choosing Your Teaching Subject for UNIMAID Education Arts
Decide the subject of specialization before anything else, because the rest of the application follows from it. It has to appear among your five SSCE credits alongside English Language and Mathematics, and again in your UTME registration.
In JAMB you sit English Language, the subject of specialization and two arts subjects. Mathematics is required at O’Level but does not appear in the UTME combination, which catches out candidates who assume the two lists match.
Direct Entry runs through two A Level passes in a relevant subject or an NCE at merit. For UTME candidates a JAMB score of at least 160 is the eligibility threshold, with the departmental cut-off checked separately for the session.
