This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) that the Department of Fulfulde admission requirements has been published.
The sections below cover the O’Level credit passes, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the A Level route into Direct Entry, the Fulfulde certificate waiver, and the JAMB score needed to qualify for screening.
Fulfulde sits in the arts stream at Maiduguri. All five O’Level credit passes must come from the arts or the social sciences, and the three UTME subjects taken alongside English Language are drawn from the arts alone.
Unusually, the department does not name Fulfulde itself as a required school subject. That opens the course to candidates who speak the language but never sat it in SSCE, provided their five credits fall in the right subject groups.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Fulfulde include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in Arts/Social Science subjects.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Any three (3) Arts subjects
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Fulfulde if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Arts and Social Science subjects
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIMAID accepts certificates in Fulfulde and NCE in Fulfulde.
This waiver widens the Direct Entry route rather than replacing it. A candidate holding a certificate in Fulfulde, or an NCE in the subject, can apply without the two A Level passes named in the general condition above.

Routes Into Fulfulde Studies at UNIMAID
UTME candidates need five SSCE credit passes in arts or social science subjects, then English Language plus any three arts subjects in JAMB. A score of at least 160 makes the application eligible for the screening exercise.
Candidates holding science credits should look carefully at the O’Level condition. The department restricts the five passes to the arts and the social sciences, so a strong science result will not count toward the requirement for this course.
Direct Entry works through two A Level passes in arts and social science subjects, or through the Fulfulde certificate and NCE waiver. Applicants on the waiver route should have the certificate available at screening, since it is what their eligibility rests on.
