This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) that the Department of Library Science admission requirements has been published.
The requirements below cover the O’Level subject combination, the four subjects sat in JAMB UTME, the Direct Entry routes for A Level and NCE holders, the department waiver note, and the JAMB score needed for screening.
Library Science is among the most open courses at Maiduguri on subject choice. English Language and Mathematics are the only two named O’Level credits, and the remaining three can come from the arts, the sciences or the social sciences.
The UTME combination is wider still, asking only for English Language plus any three subjects. That makes the waiver note and the Direct Entry routes the sections most worth reading carefully, since they are where the real conditions sit.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Library Science include Five SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
English Language, Mathematics, and three (3) other relevant Arts/Sciences/Social Sciences subjects.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Any three subjects
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Library Science if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in relevant subjects plus the UTME requirements.
- NCE merit in relevant subjects.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIMAID accepts NCE/ND/HND in related studies.
This waiver widens the Direct Entry list above rather than replacing it. The general route names A Level passes and an NCE merit, while the waiver confirms that Maiduguri will also consider a National Diploma or HND in a related field of study.
