This is to notify the general public and all aspiring University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) students that the Department of Veterinary Medicine admission requirements has been published.
The requirements cover the O Level credits, the four papers registered in JAMB, the Direct Entry conditions and the minimum UTME score. Veterinary Medicine is a full science programme and the subject lists leave very little room to manoeuvre.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Veterinary Medicine include Five SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
English Language, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
All five credits are named, so no part of this list is optional. Mathematics is included here even though it is absent from the JAMB combination, which is the most common reason applications fall short.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
The JAMB papers are fixed at English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. There is no alternative arrangement, and nothing on this list can be swapped for another science.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Veterinary Medicine if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
A’ level passes in Chemistry, Biology/Zoology, Physics, or Mathematics
The Direct Entry list is wider than the JAMB one. Mathematics appears as an accepted subject, and Zoology is treated as an equivalent to Biology, which helps candidates from specialised science programmes.
The O Level credits still apply alongside those passes, so Direct Entry shortens the route rather than replacing the subject requirements.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIMAID for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum of 160 or above score in your JAMB result.

What UNIMAID Veterinary Medicine Applicants Must Have on Paper
Five named credits, four fixed JAMB papers and a short list of accepted A Level subjects leave almost no flexibility in this application. Biology, Physics and Chemistry appear at every stage.
Mathematics is the subject that only shows up at O Level and at Direct Entry, never on the JAMB form, so check it on your result before anything else. Then confirm your score reaches the 160 minimum for the 2026/2027 session.
