English and Linguistics at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) is one of the more forgiving programmes on paper at O’Level, because only two of the five credits are named outright. The pressure sits elsewhere, in the post-UTME mark the department sets.

English Language and Literature in English are compulsory at O’Level, and Literature in English returns as a compulsory JAMB paper. A candidate who skipped Literature at secondary school is therefore blocked at two separate points, not one.
Everything you need for the 2026/2027 session is set out below: the O’Level combination, the four JAMB subjects, the general UTME score and the departmental cut-off mark for English and Linguistics.
Unizik Department of English and Linguistics Admission Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
Candidates must possess five (5) O’ level credits, including English Language, Literature in English, and any other 3 subjects obtained at no more than two sittings.
Two of the five are named and the remaining three are left open, so the department is not asking for a fixed Arts set at this stage. The sittings rule still applies to all five credits together.
JAMB Subject Combinations
Candidates who wish to study English And Linguistics at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) will write the following four (4) subjects in Jamb.
Use of English, Lit.-in-English, one other Art subject, and another Arts or Social Science subject.
Two slots are fixed and two are chosen. The third must be an Arts subject, while the fourth may come from either Arts or the Social Sciences, which gives candidates from a mixed background a usable route in.

UNIZIK JAMB Score
Generally, For any candidate to be considered for admission in the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), the candidate must score 200 and above in JAMB.
UNIZIK English and Linguistics Departmental Cut-off Mark
To be offered admission to the UNIZIK Department of English And Linguistics, the candidate must score 220 and above in the school post-Utme examination.
Note the gap between the two figures. The university opens at 200 in JAMB, but this department asks for 220 in its own post-UTME exam, so clearing the general score leaves you twenty marks short of where English and Linguistics starts.
Literature in English Is Non-Negotiable at UNIZIK English and Linguistics
Of everything on this page, Literature in English is the subject that decides eligibility. It is required as an O’Level credit and again as a JAMB paper, and no alternative subject is offered in its place at either stage.
The second thing to plan for is the 220 post-UTME mark, which is the real competitive hurdle for English and Linguistics at UNIZIK. Five credits in not more than two sittings and 200 in JAMB get you to the screening, not through it.
