Admission Requirements for Political Science
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Political Science is Five (5) SSCE credits in Government or History, English Language, and three other subjects.
A pass in Mathematics is required.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Political Science at SSU include Government or History with any other two Social Science or Arts subjects.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Political Science if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes, one of which should be Government or History.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into SSU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Government or History on All Three SSU Political Science Routes
Government or History is named at every stage, among the five O’level credits, among the four JAMB papers, and as one of the two A’level or NCE passes at Direct Entry.
The pairing matters, since a candidate holding either one satisfies the requirement and does not need both.
Mathematics is handled separately and leniently, required as an ordinary pass rather than a credit.
At UTME the remaining two papers can be any Social Science or Arts subjects, which leaves considerable freedom at registration.
Candidates entering through UTME need a minimum of 180 and above in their JAMB result for the 2026/2027 session.
