This is to inform the general public that the management of the University Of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, has published the admission requirements for her Department of Dentistry And Dental Surgery aspirants.

Dentistry and Dental Surgery is among the most tightly specified courses UNN publishes, and it asks more of Direct Entry candidates than most. Below are the O Level credits, the UTME combination, the Direct Entry condition and the score the university requires.
About UNN
The University of Nigeria was the first indigenous university in Nigeria to attain full-fledged and autonomous status. It was modelled after the American educational system. It is the first land-grant university in Africa and one of Nigeria’s five most reputed universities.
The University has 102 academic departments in 15 Faculties and offers 82 undergraduate and 211 postgraduate programs.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Dentistry and Dental Surgery are five SSCE (5) credit passes and should include English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
All five credits are named, so a candidate has no free choice at this stage at all. Mathematics is worth noting in particular, because it is required here and then appears nowhere else on the page.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Dentistry and Dental Surgery are Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.
The UTME combination is the three laboratory sciences beside the compulsory English Language. Mathematics drops away, which means the four papers are settled before a candidate begins filling in the form.

Direct Entry Requirement
You need the following to gain Direct Entry admission to study Dentistry and Dental Surgery if you don’t intend to use UTME.
- Three (3) ‘A’ level passes to include Chemistry, Biology/Zoology, and Physics.
Zoology is accepted in place of Biology on this route only. The three named subjects also use up all three required passes, so there is no room for an unrelated A Level to count towards entry.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 200 or above in your JAMB result.
Three A Level Passes, Not Two
Most UNN courses ask for two A Level passes at Direct Entry. This one asks for three, and names all three, so an applicant needs Chemistry, Physics and either Biology or Zoology before the route is open to them.
The UTME route is no looser. Every one of the five O Level credits is specified, and the four JAMB papers are fixed. Secure those credits, enter Chemistry, Biology and Physics beside English Language, and score at least 200 for the 2026/2027 session.
