This is to notify the general public and all aspiring University of Jos (UNIJOS) students that the Department of Education and Mathematics has published its admission requirements for candidates applying through UTME and through Direct Entry.
Set out below are the five O Level credits the department expects, the four subjects to enter on your JAMB form, the qualifications accepted for Direct Entry, and the UTME score that clears you for screening.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & Mathematics include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics plus one other Science subject.
Three of the five credits are specified. English Language and Mathematics are named outright, a third must be a Science subject of your choosing, and the last two places are left entirely open.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language.
- Mathematics and any two (2) Science subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
The sciences are named at this stage. Two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology join Mathematics and English Language, so the only decision left is which science to drop.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Mathematics if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two (2) ’A’ Level passes/NCE in Mathematics and one (1) Science subject.
The same pairing holds at Direct Entry. Mathematics is compulsory, a Science subject must sit beside it, and an NCE is accepted in place of A Level passes.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
Mathematics Always Comes With a Science Subject
This is a Mathematics course, yet Mathematics never stands alone on any of the three routes. A Science subject is required beside it at O Level, two sciences are required beside it on the JAMB form, and one is required beside it at Direct Entry.
Candidates coming from a pure Arts or commercial background therefore have no way in. Plan for credits in English Language, Mathematics and at least one science, pick two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology for the UTME form, and score at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
