Education and Economics at the University Of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka prepares teachers of economics, so it is admitted through the Faculty of Education rather than the social sciences. The requirements below reflect that double focus on the subject and on teaching.
Three things decide your application: the five O Level credits, the four subjects you register for JAMB, and the score you achieve. Direct Entry candidates are assessed on their advanced qualification instead of the UTME combination.

Three of the five credits are named and two are left open. Economics matters most here, since it reappears in every other requirement on this page. Mathematics is asked for as a credit rather than a pass.
UTME Subject Combination
In UTME, the English Language is compulsory for this course. The three (3) other JAMB UTME subjects needed to study Education and Economics under the Faculty of Education at UNN are listed below.
Economics, Mathematics, and one other subject from Geography/Physics, History, Government, and Lit. in English.
Three of your four JAMB subjects are therefore decided before you start: English Language, Economics and Mathematics. Only the final slot is yours to choose.
That final list is unusually mixed. It spans Geography and Physics on the science side and History, Government and Literature in English on the arts side, so candidates from either stream can complete a valid combination.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Economics if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
i. Two ‘A’ level passes in Economics and another relevant subject.
ii. NCE credit/merit level passes in Economics and one other subject
Both routes name Economics and leave the partner subject loosely defined. An NCE is accepted on equal terms with A Level passes, which suits candidates who have already trained as teachers and want to add a degree.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 200 or above in your JAMB result.
Treat 200 as the gate to screening rather than an offer. Places in the department are limited, so a score well clear of the minimum leaves you in a stronger position when the list is drawn up.
Economics Appears on Every List for This Course
There is no route into Education and Economics at UNN that does not involve Economics itself. It is a required O Level credit, a compulsory JAMB subject, and the named subject in both Direct Entry conditions.
Build your application around it. Hold credits in English Language, Economics and Mathematics, register Economics and Mathematics for UTME with one subject from the approved list, and aim comfortably above the 200 mark.
