UNN Department of Electrical Engineering Admission Requirement 2026/2027

The University Of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka has published the entry requirements for its Department of Electrical Engineering, covering the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME combination and two Direct Entry routes.

UNN

Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language are required as O’Level credits and written again in the UTME. That accounts for four of the five credits.

The fifth is left entirely open, with no field specified. That is a small but real difference from most engineering departments, which confine the last credit to the sciences.

About UNN

The University of Nigeria was the first full-fledged indigenous and first autonomous University in Nigeria modelled upon the American educational system. It is the first land-grant university in Africa and one of Nigeria’s five most reputed universities.

The University has 15 Faculties and 102 academic departments. The University offers 82 undergraduate programs and 211 postgraduate programs.

The University celebrated its 50th anniversary in October 2010

O’Level Subject Combination

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Electrical Engineering are as follows. You require;

Five SSCE credit passes, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English Language.

Four subjects are named and the fifth is unspecified, so Further Mathematics, Biology, Technical Drawing or a commercial subject would each count towards it.

JAMB Subject Combination

In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.

Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Electrical Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology at UNN include Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

No alternatives are offered in the UTME, and all three are already required O’Level credits. One body of revision therefore covers both stages of the application.

Direct Entry Requirement

These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Electrical Engineering if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

  • ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics and Physics.
  • ND/HND in Elect Eng. Upper/Lower credit, respectively.

Chemistry is absent from the A Level route even though UTME candidates must write it. The O’Level credit in Chemistry is still required whichever way you apply.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of  200 or above in your JAMB result.

Only the Fifth O’Level Credit Is Left Open at UNN Electrical Engineering

Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language are fixed at O’Level and in the UTME alike. The fifth credit carries no restriction at all, which is unusual among engineering departments.

Use that freedom on a subject you can score well in, since it counts towards your five credits without affecting your JAMB subjects in any way.

Direct Entry runs on A Level passes in Mathematics and Physics, or an ND at upper credit or HND at lower credit in Electrical Engineering. UTME candidates need 200 or above in JAMB.
