Chemistry is taught under the Faculty of Sciences at Federal University Gashua. Chemistry itself is the only subject required at every stage, and the papers around it are left open.
Mathematics is a named credit at O’Level but becomes just one of three options at UTME. Physics and Biology are never compulsory anywhere.

WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Chemistry is Five (5) SSCE credits in Mathematics, Chemistry, English Language, and two other Science subjects.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Chemistry under the Faculty of Sciences at FUGASHUA include;
Chemistry and any two of the following subjects; Mathematics, Physics, and Biology.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Chemistry if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in Chemistry and any other science subjects.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUGASHUA for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Chemistry Alone Is Fixed at FUGASHUA
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credits in Mathematics, Chemistry and English Language, plus two other science subjects. Three papers are named and the balance stays within the sciences.
The UTME combination keeps English Language compulsory, fixes Chemistry, and asks for any two of Mathematics, Physics and Biology.
Mathematics therefore moves from compulsory to optional between the two stages, while the credit from secondary school is still needed.
Direct Entry is the most open condition here, requiring only two ‘A’ Level or NCE passes in Chemistry and any other science subjects.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at FUGASHUA and applies whichever route a candidate uses.
