O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Economics and Development Studies are as follows:
Five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and at least two (2) other relevant subjects from Commerce, Government, and Accounting.
Three credits are named and the other two are drawn from Commerce, Government and Accounting, so all five places are effectively accounted for and the choice is a narrow one.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Economics and Development Studies under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at FUOTUOKE include;
Economics, Mathematics, and any Government, History, Geography, and Literature in English, French, and CRS/IRS.
The UTME form is wider than the credits above. English Language, Economics and Mathematics are fixed, and the fourth paper is drawn from a list running through Government, History, Geography, Literature in English, French and the religious studies papers.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Economics and Development Studies if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
ND/NCE with upper/merit credit in the relevant program in addition to five (5) credit passes at SSC at not more than two (2) sittings.
Two conditions are stacked here. The diploma is required alongside five SSC credit passes rather than instead of them, and those credits must come from no more than two sittings, which is a limit the O Level section above never states.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUOTUOKE for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
No A Level Route Into This Course
Most listings offer A Level passes as the standard Direct Entry route. This one does not mention A Levels at all. The only qualification named is an ND or NCE at upper credit or merit in a relevant programme.
It is also the most demanding route on the page, since the diploma counts in addition to five SSC credits obtained at no more than two sittings. UTME candidates need English Language, Mathematics and Economics among their credits and a minimum of 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
