This is to notify the general public and all aspiring University of Jos (UNIJOS) students that the Department of Computer Science admission requirements has been published.
Computer Science reads as a straight science listing until two of its sections quietly let non-science subjects in. Below are the five O Level credits, the UTME combination, both Direct Entry routes and the score UNIJOS asks for.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Computer Science include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, and Physics, plus two other science subjects.
Three credits are named and the last two must both be science subjects, so the O Level requirement is entirely within the science stream and leaves no room for a commercial or arts credit.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language.
- Mathematics
- Physics and one subject from below:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Agricultural Science
- Economics or Geography
The UTME list is wider than that. English Language, Mathematics and Physics are fixed, and the fourth paper may be Economics or Geography as readily as Biology, Chemistry or Agricultural Science.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Computer Science if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in science subjects, including Mathematics.
- NCE merit in Mathematics and one (1) other Science or Social Science subject.
The two Direct Entry lines do not match either. The A Level route asks for science subjects, while the NCE route accepts a Social Science subject beside Mathematics.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
Where a Social Science Subject Is Allowed In
Mathematics is the only subject required on every route, named at O Level, on the JAMB form and in both Direct Entry conditions. Physics joins it on the first two but drops out of Direct Entry altogether.
The useful detail is where the science restriction stops applying. Your O Level credits and your A Level passes must be sciences, but Economics or Geography will serve as the fourth UTME paper, and the NCE route accepts a Social Science subject. UTME candidates need at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
