Admission Requirements for Food Science and Technology
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Food Science and Technology is Five (5) SSCE credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agric, Science, and Physics.

- Bakery and Confectionaries,
- Hotel & Catering Crafty course (Cookery),
- Hotel & Catering Craft Course (Food /Drinks Services)
- Basic Electricity
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Food Science and Technology at FUTA include Chemistry, Mathematics/ Physics, and Agric Science.
Direct Entry Requirement
You need to fulfill these conditions to gain Direct Entry admission to study Food Science and Technology if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require: Chemistry and Biology/Physics/Agric Science/Botany/Zoology.
Two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in any 200 or 300-level course at the NCE/HND/OND program.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTA for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Catering Certificates in the FUTA Food Science Requirements
The list under the O’level line is unusual for a science department. It names Basic Catering and Food Services, Bakery and Confectionaries, two Hotel and Catering craft courses, and Basic Electricity.
Those entries recognise vocational training that candidates from catering and technical colleges already hold, which few science programmes do.
The core credits remain conventional, covering English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agric Science, and Physics.
At UTME the papers are Chemistry, Agric Science and either Mathematics or Physics. Direct Entry widens the second subject to include Botany and Zoology, and a minimum of 180 and above in JAMB applies for the 2026/2027 session.
