The Department of Agricultural Engineering at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has published its entry requirements, covering the O’level credits accepted, the UTME subject combination, three direct entry routes and the JAMB score needed for screening.
The O’level list here is written with technical college students in mind. Alongside the usual four core subjects it names farm machinery and workshop papers such as Tractor Layout, Transmission System and Implement and Machine.
Those entries are unusual on a university entry list, and they matter. A credit in any one of them completes the five the department asks for.
Direct entry is equally generous, recognising A level or IJMB passes, an upper credit ND and an HND in the field. Each route is set out below.
The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Agricultural Engineering include Five SSCE credits in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry and any one subject from below:
- Introduction to Agricultural Science/Materials & Workshop Process and Machining
- Tractor Layout Power Unit Under Carriage and Auto Electricity
- Transmission System
- Implement and Machine
- Principles of Crop Husbandry and Land Use
- Materials and Workshop Processes
- Construction and Maintenance of Agricultural Machines
- General Metal Work
- General Wood Work and Building/Engineering Drawing
English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are fixed. The fifth credit comes from the nine technical and agricultural options listed beneath them, and all of them carry equal weight.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Physics
None of the technical subjects carries into the UTME. All four papers here are compulsory, so a technical college candidate sits exactly the same combination as everyone else.

Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Agricultural Engineering if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- ‘A’ level/IJMB passes or equivalents in Physics and Mathematics.
- ND upper credit or distinction in Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Bio Resources Engineering or related from an accredited institution.
- HND in Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Bio-Resources Engineering, or related from an accredited institution.

JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 160 or above in your JAMB result.
The figure applies to the UTME route. Direct entry applicants are assessed on the qualifications listed above rather than on a JAMB result.

Technical College Routes Into FUTO Agricultural Engineering
The farm machinery subjects in the O’level list are the most useful part of this page. A credit in General Metal Work or Implement and Machine can complete your five credits.
For the UTME itself you need English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, with a JAMB score of 160 or above to reach the screening stage.
Holders of an ND or HND in the field should look at direct entry instead, and everyone should confirm the current conditions with FUTO before registering.
