The Department of Financial Management & Technology at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has published its entry requirements, covering the O’level credits accepted, the UTME subject combination, the direct entry route and the JAMB score needed for screening.
This department pairs a commercial core with a science background condition, which is what makes its O’level list unusually long. Economics and Mathematics are fixed, and the two remaining credits are drawn from a wide set of science and technical subjects.
That breadth works in your favour. Subjects such as Wood Work, Technical Drawing and Nutrition and Food Science all count, so candidates often qualify on credits they assumed were irrelevant to a finance programme.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Financial Management Technology include Five SSCE credits in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Economics and any other two science subjects from below:
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Biology
- Geography
- Health Science
- Metal Works
- Wood Work
- Agricultural Science
- Technical Drawing
- Nutrition and Food Science
Three credits are fixed, English Language, Mathematics and Economics, and the final two come from the ten subjects listed beneath them. Any two of that set complete the five, with no ranking between them.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Economics and any one of Chemistry, Physics, or Biology
The UTME list is far tighter than the O’level one. Only Chemistry, Physics and Biology are accepted in the fourth slot, so the technical subjects that count at O’level will not serve you here.

Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Financial Management Technology if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two A’ Level passes in Economics, Accountancy, Business Management, Government, and Geography. Candidate must have a Science background at ‘O’ Level.
Read the second sentence of that bullet carefully. The A level subjects are commercial ones, but the science background condition at O’level still stands, so both halves have to be satisfied together.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 160 or above in your JAMB result.
160 opens the door to screening and no further. Selection into the department happens after that exercise, so the score is best treated as the entry ticket rather than the decision.
