The Department of Forestry & Wildlife Technology at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has published its entry requirements, covering the O’level credits accepted, the UTME subject combination, the direct entry route and the JAMB score needed to reach screening.

Both subject lists here are built around Chemistry and Biology, which tells you where the programme sits academically. What differs between them is the flexibility: the O’level list offers four options for its fifth credit, while the UTME list offers two paired choices.
Agricultural Science is accepted in the UTME combination but does not appear in the O’level list, so candidates relying on it should read both sections rather than assuming the two match.
The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Forestry & Wildlife Technology include Five SSCE credits in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Biology and any one subject below:
- Physics
- Economics
- Further Mathematics
- Statistics
English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology are fixed. The fifth credit comes from Physics, Economics, Further Mathematics or Statistics, and all four of those options carry equal weight.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language
- Chemistry
- Biology or Agricultural Science
- Physics or Mathematics
Two of these four slots allow a choice. Biology and Agricultural Science are interchangeable in the third, and Physics and Mathematics in the fourth, so pick on the strength of your preparation.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Forestry And Wildlife Technology if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two ’A’ levels pass in Chemistry, Biology, Agric Science, Zoology, or Botany.
Any two passes from that list of five will satisfy the condition. Direct entry removes the need for a UTME score, though the O’level credits set out above continue to apply.

JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 160 or above in your JAMB result.

Getting the FUTO Forestry and Wildlife Technology Entry Right
Line your results up against three things: five SSCE credits including English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology, the four UTME papers with their two optional slots, and a JAMB score of 160 or above.
Applicants holding two A level passes from Chemistry, Biology, Agric Science, Zoology or Botany have the direct entry route open to them, which is worth considering before sitting the UTME again.
FUTO reviews these conditions between admission cycles, so check the current subject lists and screening score with the department before you commit to this course on your form.
