Admission requirements for the Department of Optometry at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) have been published, covering the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME papers, the Direct Entry route and the JAMB score.

Optometry names all five O’Level credits with no alternatives, and three of them, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, carry straight through to the UTME papers.
The screening threshold is 160, which makes the credits rather than the score the harder part of this application.

Zoology as the Direct Entry Alternative at FUTO Optometry
The O’Level requirement is five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, every one of them named.
The JAMB papers are English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, so Mathematics is the only credit not tested again at UTME.
Direct Entry asks for A level passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Zoology. That Zoology allowance is the single substitution permitted anywhere on the page.
A JAMB score of 160 or above makes you eligible for screening in the 2026/2027 session.
Since nothing in the O’Level list can be swapped out, verifying all five credits is the first and most useful step before you register.
